Marvel’s God of Thunder made his debut at Innoventions in Disneyland’s Tomorrowland in November of 2013 with Thor: Treasures of Asgard – a walkthrough exhibit and Meet & Greet you can enter on the upper level of the building.
Originally intended as a seasonal event to promote Thor: The Dark World, like Iron Man Tech it proved so popular that it has remained open and Thor has thrilled crowds with his presence ever since!
Your experience begins with a display of weaponry from the Thor films. When it is your group’s turn, you are invited into a room with further weaponry and costume pieces including Loki’s helmet.
After an audio explanation from Odin All-Father, you are transported via the Bifrost to Asgard, where Thor greets you in the throne room.
Of course he bears Mjolnir, Thor’s Hammer!
He then allows his portrait to be taken with each of his guests from Midgard (aka Earth).
Of any of the Marvel experiences in Innoventions, this one is the most detailed and fun and Thor is a wonderful host to all of his guests. Please note though that Innoventions may not be open during all park operating hours – check your daily Entertainment Times Guide for the schedule.
This is simply a must-visit for any Marvel or Thor fan! (Though I’d vote to add Loki to this Meet & Greet too!)
Have you visited Thor in Asgard (via Innoventions)?
Update 3/7/15: Disneyland has just announced that Innoventions will be closing March 31st. It is unknown at this time if the Marvel experiences will be moved elsewhere in the Resort, so if you want to visit them, you have until the end of this month to do so! Personally, I’m hoping these exhibits and Meet & Greets will be moved elsewhere (possibly the currently closed Starcade?) at least temporarily until a new home for Marvel properties is established in the Resort. But the Innoventions building would make a great Stark Expo or S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters with a little renovation, don’t you think?
Update 6/1/15: Thor has now returned to do Meet & Greets in Tomorrowland – he can be found doing photo ops next to the Tomorrowlanding shop. Still awaiting word if he will return to his old home in Innoventions at some time in the future.
Update 3/10/16: Earlier this week Disney announced that they were closing the SuperHero HQ in Disneyland’s Tomorrowland that they recently opened which had once again become home to the God of Thunder’s Meet & Greets. Thor is therefore leaving the Disneyland Resort after April 2nd to return to Asgard, while his Marvel friends, Cap (who returns after his recent absence) and Spidey will move over to greet guests at HollywoodLand in Disney California Adventure. With this new rotation of characters to promote the current movies, I wouldn’t be surprised, however, to see Thor return to the parks around the time his next film is released!
