Disneyland 60th Anniversary Diamond Celebration Animatronics Updates

I just wanted to share a few more updates which debuted at the Disneyland Resort recently for the 60th Anniversary Diamond Celebration. Today I’m going to focus on a few animatronic additions!

Sadly, I have no photos of the new Abominable Snowman in the Matterhorn for you – that coaster ride is just too rough for me! But I’ve heard he’s terrific looking!

One character I did make a beeline to go see was a particular Happy Haunt who hasn’t materialized in the Haunted Mansion for decades but just made his very welcome return: The Hatbox Ghost!

Hats off to the return of the Hatbox Ghost to the Haunted Mansion!

And I was not disappointed – he looks incredible and I’m so thrilled to have this missing ghost back after all of these years!

I wonder if he and Trader Sam of The Jungle Cruise share notes on how to get ahead?

My other happy discovery for the Diamond Celebration was the first of six new Main Street Enchanted Windows animatronic displays that will debut in staggered intervals during the next few months. (Still to come are windows for: Cinderella, Frozen, The Princess & the Frog, Toy Story and Aladdin!)

The initial reveal is of the Peter Pan window. Words and even pictures can’t express the magic of this scene in action! It’s such a small wonder, but it’s a perfect example of Imagineering genius at work.

The scene starts in the Darling children’s bedroom as Peter invites them to Neverland:

Then the scene splits apart and rotates and the buildings turn inside out:

And finally you see them flying off to Neverland with Nana getting some extra pixie dust sprinkled on her:

Mousertainment Tip: These windows look especially beautiful all lit up at night – make sure to check them out later in the evening even if you stop to see them by day!

Again, it’s such a seemingly simple but beautiful improvement on the already delightfully entertaining windows along Disneyland’s Main Street, U.S.A.

But it makes me super-excited to look forward to seeing the rest of them unveiled over the course of the celebration!

Have you had a chance to see the new Abominable Snowman, Hatbox Ghost or Main Street Enchanted Window? Which is your favorite of the new animatronic updates?

Update 6/8/15: As of yesterday, the second of the Main Street Enchanted Windows has been revealed – Cinderella!  The scene is made up of two components:

Cinderella in rags is visited by her Fairy Godmother:

And then afterward she is seen dancing with the Prince at the ball:

My only quibble is that the dancing scene went ON AND ON AND ON and I wanted it to turn so I could see the other sequence and it just seemed to take forever!  But it’s still very beautiful!

Update 8/20/15: As of this past weekend, the window for The Princess and the Frog was open but wasn’t working at the time I saw it!  It was just stuck in place.  So when I go back next, I’ll try to get an updated pic to add here once it’s working again!
