Show Spotlight: Lights, Motors, Action! Extreme Stunt Show

From CARS-themed shows on the West Coast to one on the East Coast – let’s take a visit to Disney’s Hollywood Studios at the Walt Disney World Resort!

What is Lights, Motors, Action! Extreme Stunt Show?

Lightning McQueen at the Lights, Motors, Action! Extreme Stunt Show.

This stunt show features cars, trucks and even more cars speeding, swerving, jumping and doing the kinds of tricks you usually (hopefully!) only see in the movies.

There are multiple sequences of incredibly choreographed amazing precision driving done by well-trained professionals. And like the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular!, the show also contains an element of explaining “how did they do that?”

Who are the performers?

Stunt cars, stunt drivers and the “production team”.

The performers include the stunt drivers of the specially-designed stunt cars, along with a “production team” filming the scenes as performed, as well as a “director” who explains the movie magic it takes to capture those high-speed chases and action sequences you see in films. And there is also a very special appearance by CARS favorite Lightning McQueen who gets in on the racing action too!

There is an audience participation segment as well that uses a young volunteer from the crowd who gets to help out the production team.

When and where can I find it?

This half-hour+ show plays 2-3 times daily at Disney’s Hollywood Studios’ Streets of America, but like the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular!, it is one of the attractions most affected by rain. If the area is wet, the show will not go on. So be sure to not only check your Times Guide, but to ask a Cast Member working at the attraction or Guest Relations if the show will still play at the scheduled time if it has been raining. FastPass+ reservations can be made for this show – but keep in mind that weather issue!

Mousertainment Tip: HYDRATE! While you may think that you don’t have to worry about keeping hydrated at a show where the viewing area is shaded, you would be wrong! This was the one experience in the park where I got light-headed from the long time out in the heat because I hadn’t brought water to drink while it was going on. It is critical to keep hydrated whenever you are outdoors even if you don’t expect to need to do so. Bring water!

Why spotlight it?

While I enjoyed learning something new about the behind the scenes activity for car chase sequences in films, this show does not really have the “must see again” quality of the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular! for me. Though I was very glad to see it once and watching Lightning McQueen in action was fun.

However, I think this high-octane show is great for the cars-loving – and CARS-loving – little (and big) kids in the family and is worth checking out if it’s playing while you’re there.

Have you been to see the Lights, Motors, Action! Extreme Stunt Show? Do you prefer it or the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular!?

Update 1/15/16: Disney has just announced that this show will be closing permanently on April 2, 2016 to make way for the Disney’s Hollywood Studios version of Star Wars Land.  So you have 2 1/2 months left to go check it out!
