Performer Spotlight: Alice @ The Mad T Party

“You’re my sweetheart!”

Nothing I say can properly express what happens when this girl steps onto the Mad T Party stage.

Words can’t tell you how she inspires and moves me and fills my eyes and ears with her beauty, her talent, her authenticity of spirit, and the conviction with which she tells the story in every song.

Pictures can’t show how brightly she shines in person.

Video is only an echo of what she brings to a performance.

Everything about her magic is what you experience in person when she’s on the stage before you. Continue reading

Performer Spotlight: Mad Hatter @ The Mad T Party

“I’ll be your light, your match, your burning sun…”

This man of mercury – mercurial man.

Any time he walks onto the Mad T Party stage, the temperature rises and the T boils!

He is a creature of chaos – totally unpredictable. As an audience member, one never has any idea of what he’s going to do – and the sense that he never does either lends a crackling electrical excitement every time he performs.

He is pure unrestrained impulse… instinct… id. He has no filter, no boundaries. You feel like he could jump right off the stage at any second just because he feels like it… Continue reading

The Mad T Party Flashback – Halloween T

“This is Halloween… Halloween… Halloween…”

IMG_9056 sm wm

In the original run of the Mad T Party at Disney California Adventure, every three months or so would bring a new set list, resulting in a show that constantly reinvented itself to keep it fresh for the audience and performers alike.

Early on, in winter of 2012, the Christmas version of the Mad T Party (to be spotlighted later this year) debuted to great response and returned the following two years (although its run was curtailed in 2014 by the introduction of the generally disliked and not-returning Freeze the Night! show).

But the fall of 2013 introduced the most popular iteration of the Mad T Party – Halloween T! Which repeated to great acclaim in 2014, but unfortunately did not return in 2015, as the current show has remained the same with an unchanged set list (to the disappointment of regular fans) since it returned in its Diamond Mad T Party form.

So today we’ll look back at what is considered the best version of T with this spiked cup of Halloween-specialty brew!

There were a lot of factors that made Halloween T so popular. Continue reading

Mousertainment Movies: Top 10 Favorite Disney Villains

Continuing to celebrate this most villainous season, I thought I would share with you a list of my Top 10 favorite Disney Villains from the movies!

When I started to think about it though, this list was actually rather difficult to narrow down, as there are a lot of great villains out there!

However, since lists like these are always completely subjective, and since this one is about the lawless rule-breakers, in their naughty honor, I shall include villains that are part of the extended Disney movie family too. Just because I can and I like them!

So here we go…

10) Bowler Hat Guy (Meet the Robinsons)

  • The poor misunderstood villain – or should that be – SPOILER ALERT!!! – wearer of the villain?!?! I simply cannot help but love a man with an evil hat.

9) Dr. Facilier (The Princess and the Frog)

  • And speaking of villains to love – he likely has a potion for that, but with all of his Friends on the Other Side, you’re still more likely to fear him than love him! And yet, I still kinda do…

8) Si & Am (Lady & The Tramp) / Lucifer (Cinderella)

  • Evil kitties! No… SERIOUSLY evil kitties! Possibly the most devious creatures on this list. Because kitties! And evil! They want to hurt babies and mice! Bad kitties! Bad!

7) Queen of Hearts (Alice in Wonderland)

  • Because Wonderland. That is all. (And really, if you read this site regularly, you were expecting her to show up on the list, weren’t you?) Continue reading

The Pros and Cons of a Hard-Ticket Event – Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party

The Main Street, U.S.A. train station specially lit for Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party!

The Main Street, U.S.A. train station specially lit for Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party!

At both the Disneyland Resort and the Walt Disney World Resort, there are ever-expanding opportunities to add on to your day at the park if you’re willing to spend a bit extra. There are character meals where the characters come to your table to greet you. There are VIP dining packages that include FastPasses to nighttime shows such as Fantasmic! or World of Color. But some of the most popular offerings at both Resorts are the seasonal evening parties.

Disneyland Resort currently only offers Mickey’s Halloween Party at Disneyland Park, while Walt Disney World Resort offers both Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party and Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party at the Magic Kingdom.

Personally, I’m grateful that Disneyland Resort does not charge for the Christmas holiday entertainment such as the parade, fireworks, castle lighting and snowfall on Main Street, U.S.A. – one of the most magical moments any guest can have at Disneyland Park. (Although this year, due to the Diamond Anniversary Celebration, we may only be getting the parade out of any of those special experiences.)

But when it comes to Halloweentime, in looking at the two Resorts’ Halloween events, the Magic Kingdom version is absolutely superior in its size and scope. But the real question is… is it worth the expense?

Well, that depends on what you want to get out of the event.

The cost this year to attend Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party starts at $74 + tax per adult attendee and goes up to $87 + tax depending on the date you wish to attend (although discounts are available for purchasing in advance or being an Annual Passholder or Disney Vacation Club member). That’s not cheap. And in the past year or so, Disney has added upcharge parties WITHIN the Halloween Party such as this year’s Happy Hallowishes Dessert Premium Package which will cost an adult an additional $69 on top of the Halloween Party ticket price to attend. But whether an upcharge package at a hard ticket event is worth it is a separate question. For today, I’m just going to focus on the value of the event itself. Continue reading

Show Spotlight: Dream Along With Mickey

“Join the party where dreams really do come true!”

What is Dream Along With Mickey?

This charming stage show tells the story of Mickey Mouse throwing a party for his friends to showcase their dreams. But when Donald Duck says he doesn’t believe in dreams, it’s up to his friends to convince him otherwise!

Filled with singing, dancing and some pyrotechnics, this upbeat show brings great energy to the visual center of the Magic Kingdom park.

Who are the performers?

Hook and Smee and their Fab Four doppelgangers!

Hook and Smee and their Fab Four doppelgangers!

The large cast of characters for this show ranges from the Fab Four of Mickey Mouse and his friends to a bevy of Disney Princesses and their Princes, some classic characters like Peter Pan and Wendy, as well as a villainous appearance or two!

When and where can I find it? Continue reading

East vs. West: Fantasmic!

“Mysteries and magic, visions fantastic…”

Murphy the Dragon – the mascot of Fantasmic! at Disneyland Park.

Murphy the Dragon – the mascot of Fantasmic! at Disneyland Park.

In this season of villains, it only seems appropriate to shine a spotlight on one of the greatest villainous battles you can find at a Disney Park – the nighttime extravaganza Fantasmic! However, since there are somewhat different stagings of this show at both Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort, let’s see how one stacks up against the other… at least in my personal opinion!

I remember that my overriding first impression of the Walt Disney World Resort was being blown away by the sheer SIZE and immensity of everything compared to the Disneyland Resort. I couldn’t stop saying “IT’S HUGE!!!”

I looked at Main Street, U.S.A. and said, “It’s HUGE!”

I looked at Cinderella Castle and said, “It’s HUGE!”

I looked at Spaceship Earth and said, “It’s HUGE!”

I looked at the Tree of Life and said, “It’s HUGE!”

So you can imagine the mindset I went in with to see Disney’s Hollywood Studios’ version of Fantasmic! – my absolute favorite Disney nighttime spectacular and one of the most thrilling, emotionally moving and magical experiences I think any guest can have at a Disney Park.

But I knew something was off as I approached the stadium bleacher seating under the bright lights, with Cast Members peddling popcorn and snacks across the rows of people while a couple of other guys shouted bad jokes at the crowd and tried to get them to do “the wave”…

And then I saw the size of the waterway and the cave set that the show would be performed on… and I started to laugh… “but it’s all so small!”

And I didn’t stop laughing until long after the show ended.

So I’m going to give you the spoiler result right up front: Disneyland Resort wins this comparison hands (gloves?) down. And here’s why… Continue reading
