With the official renaming of Orlando’s Downtown Disney to Disney Springs this week, it will at least make it easier to differentiate which location one is referring to!
Today I’m going to share a recent visit to check out some entertainment that was happening in Anaheim’s Downtown Disney district!
Downtown Disney is essentially a nice outdoor mall which provides a pleasant location to take a not-too-long stroll – not to mention do some shopping and enjoy some very good dining options! But since I always enjoy the addition of live musical entertainment to such outdoor locations, I’m happy to find it here too!
Downtown Disney in the evenings is often filled with music. Frequently it’s individual performers playing and selling their music ranging from guitar, violin, and wind instruments to keyboard stylings. There are also musical acts that play inside some of the restaurants such as Ralph Brennan’s Jazz Kitchen and the House of Blues. But my favorite entertainment option here is when bands play on the open-air stage down by the ESPN Zone and the AMC Downtown Disney theater.
This location was where the swing dancers were relegated to during the transition from Carnation Plaza Gardens to Fantasy Faire’s Royal Theatre. And frankly, it’s really not an ideal place for dancing. But currently the stage is used for visiting bands and sometimes the Disney DJs hosting events, and I do think it’s a fun place to go listen to a DJ or band whether you’re passing by and stop to listen to a few songs or stay for multiple sets!
One night a few weeks ago, I spent several enjoyable hours in this area listening to local cover band Just Press Play who were performing as part of Downtown Disney Live! Disneyland Resort Celebrates 60 Years summer concert series.
They played a great range of pop and rock music from the past several decades and even a little bit of country thrown in for good measure!
It was fun to watch as people paused on their way to different Disney destinations when they saw the band in order to enjoy some good live musical performances!
Since the band played so many different kinds of songs from classics to current hits, people of all ages could enjoy something they recognized. And plenty of us loved it all – whether it was “Old Time Rock and Roll” or “Uptown Funk”!
This band has a wonderful, positive upbeat energy and showed great humor as they interacted with and played to the crowd.
I hope Disney considers bringing some of the popular Tomorrowland Terrace bands like TOMASINA and 80z All-Stars to perform here. It’s a much smaller stage than Tomorrowland’s but I’m willing to go anywhere I have to in order to enjoy some of my favorite bands!
But in the meantime, if they schedule Just Press Play again, I’ll do my best to get there to enjoy another fun rockin’ night in Downtown Disney!
Mousertainment Tip: Disneyland Resort posts the Downtown Disney entertainment schedule on their online entertainment calendar. So next time you’re going to be in the area, check out who is playing there and go listen for a while!
Have you stopped to enjoy any musicians or bands in Downtown Disney? What do you think of it as a musical venue?
