Character Spotlight: Meet & Greet Disney Villains at Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resorts

In keeping with the season, I thought it would be wicked fun to turn to the darker side (oops, was that a hint?) of characters one might Meet & Greet at the Disney Parks, especially at Halloweentime.

This year at Disneyland Park, since the Villains have been displaced from their Meet & Greet home of the past few years – the Big Thunder Ranch Jamboree – they have been found roaming all over the park!

Frollo is in Fantasyland!

Some that you might run into include Cruella De Vil (101 Dalmatians) – who is often found year-round in Town Square on Main Street, USA, Frollo (The Hunchback of Notre Dame) – who is visiting in Fantasyland (I found him near the Small World Mall), Jafar (Aladdin) – who is reportedly visiting near Aladdin’s Oasis in Adventureland, Captain Hook (Peter Pan) – who has been out meeting with Peter Pan near Pixie Hollow, and of course my personal favorite, the Queen of Hearts (Alice in Wonderland) – who has been seen out and about near the Alice in Wonderland attraction in Fantasyland along with Alice and the Mad Hatter!

So wonderful to see the Queen of Hearts out doing a Meet & Greet during Halloweentime with the Mad Hatter and Alice!

Other villains have appeared this year at the Mickey’s Halloween Party extra cost/hard-ticketed event including Governor Ratcliffe (Pocahontas), Hades (Hercules), the Evil Queen (Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs), the Tremaine family (Cinderella), and the evil fairy probably considered the most popular villain of all: Maleficent (Sleeping Beauty)!

But a few other villains from a galaxy far, far away can also be found regularly in the park… Storm Troopers from Star Wars have been known to roam around Star Tours in Tomorrowland. And on days when the Jedi Training Academy is closed for inclement weather, I have seen Darth Vader and possibly Darth Maul also out doing Meet & Greets.

If they’re not busy at Jedi Academy, there have been rare chances to catch the Star Wars villains doing Meet & Greets.

Lord Vader will become a regular Meet & Greet character next month when the new Star Wars Launch Bay opens in the former Innoventions building (newly renamed the Tomorrowland Expo Center) next month.

At the Walt Disney World Resort, I cannot recommend a better character experience available year-round than going to visit the egotistical Gaston (Beauty and the Beast – to be spotlighted in an upcoming feature!) in New Fantasyland at the Magic Kingdom.

I understand that Meet & Greet characters for the Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party (to be spotlighted soon!) at the Magic Kingdom this year include her majesty, the Queen of Hearts who may be found near the Mad Tea Party in Fantasyland and Lotso (Toy Story 3) in Tomorrowland.

Other villains including Maleficent, Oogie Boogie (The Nightmare Before Christmas) and Facilier (The Princess and the Frog) may be seen at the party this year at the all-new show, the Hocus Pocus Villain Spelltacular, hosted by the Sanderson Sisters (Hocus Pocus), however they are not meeting with guests.

Also at the Walt Disney World Resort, some character meals, such as Cinderella’s Happily Ever After Dinner at 1900 Park Fare in the Grand Floridian Resort, also offer a chance to dine with some villains such as the Tremaine family.

And during Star Wars Weekends at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, various Star Wars villains have been out to Meet & Greet guests – however, it is still unknown if Star Wars Weekends will be happening in 2016 due to the new Seasons of the Force event happening concurrently at Hollywood Studios and in Tomorrowland at Disneyland Park.

Sadly, the villain I would most love to meet has yet to make an appearance at a Disney Park – the treacherous Loki from the Marvel Universe. But I hold out hope that someday he will join his brother, Thor, at the Super Hero HQ in the soon-to-open Tomorrowland Expo Center. Or even just show up at Halloweentime. There’s not another villain I’d rather meet!

Do you enjoy meeting the Disney villains? What was your favorite villainous encounter at a Disney Park?

  1. By far my best and favorite Villian interaction has been with Cruella De Vil. She is so in character and had a great interaction with everyone. She even included my friend’s service dog. Over in WDW I’ve had great interaction with Lady Tremaine and the two stepsisters. They were hilarious.
