“… as the boys play rock n’ roll…”
I’ve said before, some drummers you want to listen to and some you want to watch – and this guy is one I love to watch! He’s such a stylish performer!
The way the stage is set up for the Diamond Mad T Party at Disney California Adventure, it’s actually harder to see the drummer, which is frustrating as he’s tucked away in the corner. In the original Mad T Party, the Cheshire Cat was right at the center of the stage, so you could check out this one’s tricks much more easily!
I know the light is terrible in this one, but these hands are just so much what I picture when I think of this crazy cat!
And this one is full of tricks! Continue reading
“It was electric – so perfectly hectic!”
This guy is 100% pure rock n’ roll and that’s the way I like it!
He is total rock guitar showmanship at The Mad T Party in Disney California Adventure – from a tendency to try to play his guitar with his teeth to an infamous incident of tossing his guitar up in the air (and thankfully catching it)!
It’s like a blast from classic rock past when it was about looking as wild with the guitar as much as the musical tricks his flying fingers can pull off whenever he plays.
And it always puts a big smile on my face whenever I watch his awesomely entertaining performances! Continue reading
“Oh, sweet child o’ mine…”
It is a very, very close competition, but this guy may possibly be the most adorable person on The Mad T Party stage at Disney California Adventure.
There are certainly several others who could also vie for that title (ahem, this girl, this guy, this girl, this girl), but this guy is definitely a contender.
A little quiet when he first hit the stage, he’s now a full-fledged attention-grabber who may actually spend as much if not more time away from his keyboard than at it!
But because he’s utterly winning and sweet in his “look at me” antics, he can get away with it!
I think it really started with “Spiderwebs”, the song that Alice sings to Caterpillar. His enthusiasm and eagerness in that performance received such great response that it encouraged him to play around more during other songs as well.
And the more he does, the more his ‘adorkable’ charm appeals to the crowd! Continue reading
For any show, anywhere, there are SO many more people involved in making it happen than just the star performers.
So this feature today is for the crew.
For all of the people involved in making The Mad T Party and Diamond Mad T Party happen all of these nights for the past four years.
In the final week of the Diamond Mad T Party, everyone went a little mad. Some of the techs even wound up on stage briefly – in this case, dancing with the Tweedles!
For the tech team who set up the stage and tear it down each night. Who check that the sound, the lighting, the smoke, the bubbles, the snow, and the musical instruments are all in working order. Who cover the stage on rainy days and mop it down afterwards so the show can go on.
And here dancing with the White Rabbit DJ!
For the more peripheral performers who don’t get the recognition for what they do – whether it’s as Hatter Hosts revving up the crowd in the afternoons (especially early favorites Jeff and Jilly who created perfect mad fun whenever they were around!) or walking on stilts with the flamingoes to the delight of anyone nearby. Continue reading
“I said, are you gonna be my girl?”
Caterpillar rockin’ it out! March Hare and Alice are impressed!
Ah, the lovely LadyPillar! She is absolutely one of the most dearly doted on performers on the Mad T Party stage at Disney California Adventure!
It really is extraordinary when someone joins a band and mixes in so perfectly it’s like they were always there… This girl just seamlessly fits with this band, enjoying continually hilarious and darling interactions with everyone up there… but especially with a certain Dormouse she is obviously VERY fond of!
LadyPillar clings tightly to her Mouse!
She added an entirely new dimension to the show with her arrival – bringing some more girl power to this band dominated by the guys (though still ruled by Alice!). It really changed the whole dynamic of T having her there on keys. She was the missing piece we never knew we needed until we saw her… Continue reading
“Uptown funk you up – say what?”
If anyone at The Mad T Party at Disney California Adventure deserves an award for most growth as a performer over the years – it’s this guy!
Considering one tends to think of rock guitar players as outrageous showmen, when the Party began, this guy always seemed – for lack of a better term – a little mousy!
Okay, maybe “quieter” is more accurate. Again, I know it’s not exactly the best description, but it really seemed like he was like this shy wallflower at the start, who has blossomed into his own colorful full bloom of a confident performer who knows now exactly who he wants to be. And it has been a fun evolution to watch!
He has really gone from being an introverted performer to an extroverted one, who is much more comfortable playing to and with the crowd than when he started.
Early on, he seemed content being just one of the players hanging in the background. But nowadays he steps forward on his own ready to headline! Continue reading
“Shut up and dance with me!”
Alice gets a kick out of Hatter!
There’s an old Hollywood saying that Ginger Rogers did everything Fred Astaire did – only backwards and in high heels. And there is no one at The Mad T Party that expression applies better to than this girl – who can take any groove Hatter throws at her and match him step for step! (Actually, I’ll point out that she’s even been known to out-dance Hatter – especially in her signature solo during the Britney/NSYNC mashup in the former Mad T set list!)
But she really manages to fit well with the performing style of anyone on the T stage as she is so adaptable to respond to whatever anyone else does.
And while I always look forward to her moves (everyone else can just step back when she’s kicking up the choreography!), she’s also personality plus!
She’s a bright spark up there – but she has such a range of reactions and interactions! She’s funny, she’s dramatic, she’s bouncy, she’s serious. Really she’s just completely our theatrical Alice! Continue reading
