Restaurant Spotlight: Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater and Star Wars Weekends Dining Options

Inside Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater.

Inside Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater.

While I would say EPCOT probably has the best reputation for quality of dining options at the Walt Disney World Resort, Disney’s Hollywood Studios would likely win for most fun and best themed options with choices such as the 50’s Prime Time Café, Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano, and my nerdy personal favorite: the Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater.

Boasting a classic all-American style menu with some great crazy dessert options, the star of the show at Sci-Fi is really the theming here.

Each party is seated inside a 1950’s-era convertible “car” and you have a car hop attendant to take your order and serve your meal.

And throughout the meal, you get a blast from the past as they run classic 1950’s B-movie trailers and ads on the big screen at the front of the restaurant just like at a real drive-in of that period.

This one is all about the atmosphere and really should be experienced at least once for that alone.

Mousertainment Tip: It was so dark inside this restaurant to keep with the nighttime drive-in theme that a friend had to pull out a small pocket flashlight to help us read the menu! It was a little hard to see the food too. So a flashlight app or even just the extra light from your mobile phone might help you out here if you don’t happen to carry a flashlight.  But please be courteous to your fellow diners and only use it briefly rather than keeping it turned on!

But a special perk of this location recently began when they started offering the Star Wars Dine-In Galactic Breakfast here during Star Wars Weekends in May and June!

If you book this meal (advance reservations strongly recommended), you will be able to enjoy a “cosmic” breakfast that also features appearances and Meet & Greets by Darth Vader, Boba Fett, Greedo, Jawas and Stormtroopers.

But if you’re not up for a big breakfast and would still like the chance to have a Star Wars themed meal during Star Wars Weekends, an alternate option is Jedi Mickey’s Star Wars Dine at Hollywood & Vine – a dinner meal featuring appearances and Meet & Greets by Disney characters dressed in their favorite costumes from a galaxy far, far away including: Jedi Mickey, Princess Leia Minnie, Darth Vader Goofy, Stormtrooper Donald and Chip ‘n’ Dale Ewoks!

Or if your priority is just to find some Star Wars themed food locations, a dessert party is also offered as part of the ticketed Feel the Force Premium Package and new a la carte food offerings (though advance reservations are still strongly recommended) are being sold at the Rebel Hangar: A Star Wars Lounge Experience.

These special Star Wars meals are only available during Star Wars Weekends, so if you’re lucky enough to be visiting the Walt Disney World Resort during this time, you might want to check them out!

Have you eaten at Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater Restaurant during regular or Star Wars meals? What did you think of the theming?
