Food Spotlight – Disneyland Resort Update Spring 2019

I hope you took a moment to check out my feature on some of the special limited time treats that the Disneyland Resort came up with for the Lunar New Year, Valentine’s Day and Dapper Day.  But there has been so much more to sample there these past few months that it is going to take multiple features to cover it all!

Part of my dilemma this year was that at the same time the holiday food was being offered, the Get Your Ears On – A Mickey and Minnie Celebration event was also rolling out new snacks and meals!  So at times it got confusing as to what was being offered for which celebration!  And then there were just regular food items that were newer that I hadn’t tried either!

So I’m going to spotlight some treats here from the past few weeks and months that I don’t think are directly tied into the Mickey and Minnie event (as I will cover those in a separate feature) and may just be refreshed or limited offerings.

Such as this Candy Brownie which I found several weeks ago at Jolly Holiday Bakery at Disneyland Park:

Now, I have regularly maintained that while the cupcake variations at the Disneyland Resort don’t tend to impress, the brownie desserts are routinely terrific.  This one somewhat continued that streak.  The brownie base was great as always – moist and chocolatey and filled with chocolate chips.  But adding the buttercream frosting, mini M&M’s and bite of Butterfingers candy bar on top pushed this one into the almost-too-sweet even for me category.  It was a LOT of sugar.  Quite good but I probably would’ve been fine splitting this with a friend rather than eating it all by myself.

And then there was this Chocolate Chip Cookie donut, which I got at the Donut Cart on Main Street that was sadly recently removed, however this and other donuts have turned up lately at the Jolly Holiday Bakery as well: Continue reading

Season’s Treatings – Lunar New Year, Valentine’s Day & Dapper Day Treats at the Disneyland Resort 2019

So I am REALLY late on posting some food reviews – I blame the Disneyland Resort for suddenly overwhelming us with constant new things to try!  But I’m working on catching up, first with a few quick looks at what was offered for the Lunar New Year Celebration earlier this year, along with some Valentine’s Day and Dapper Day treats!

While the Disney Parks & Resorts continue to up their game on more and more exotic food offerings (honestly, I’m not sure yet if there’s anything I want to try in the new Galaxy’s Edge land at all!) – I’ll admit to being a basic comfort food fan.  I don’t opt for things that are spicy.  I just like simple filling food, generally sweet, savory or carb-y!  So that’s what I go for when I’m at the parks.

During the Lunar New Year Celebration at Disney California Adventure this year, there were many food booths open but literally only one thing I wanted to try – the “Mickey Chinese Hot Dog Bun”.

Basically, this was hot dog bites baked into a Mickey-shaped pretzel.  So I figured ‘carb plus meat = for me’ and I got one.  Unfortunately, it was an immediate disappointment.  There was barely any hot dog to bite and the pretzel itself was dry and stale.  Not a good choice.

Fortunately, some other seasonal treats turned out better! Continue reading
